Award winning and industry led, CodeClan’s mission is to generate a steady stream of digital talent that will allow Scotland’s vibrant digital sector to flourish and drive the economy.
Taking CodeClan to its landmark placement is Euan Ramsay from Glasgow who has been recruited by Registers of Scotland as a junior software developer. He recently completed CodeClan’s 16-week software development course, which also saw him achieve a Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Level 8 pass in Software Development.
Euan (37), who previously worked in a freelance photography and video production, studied object oriented programming approaches and test driven development principles.
He said: “I have got exactly the job I was looking for. I’ll be working with RoS to maintain their computer systems.
“From CodeClan’s networking events, to guest lectures and visits to tech companies, the connection with industry has been fantastic. After the course finished, a CodeClan representative was constantly in touch to ensure we were aware of jobs that were coming up. Around half my class had a job within four weeks of completion.”
Euan is the fifth CodeClan graduate to have gained work with the organisation responsible for compiling and maintaining 18 public registers relating to property and other legal documents in Scotland.
The Keeper of the Registers of Scotland, Sheenagh Adams, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Euan to RoS. The skills and experience he has gained during his time with CodeClan will be invaluable as we work towards our goal of becoming a fully digital business by 2020. We are proud to support and nurture our staff, and it’s a pleasure to be welcoming Euan to his first position following his graduation.”
CodeClan is a key element in the Government’s ‘Digital Strategy for Scotland’, which aims to create the conditions in which our digital technologies industries can thrive. Working with industry to meet a shared objective of employing 150,000 in digital technology roles over the next five years.
Currently, over 96% of CodeClan graduates land their first job in Scotland’s tech sector within six months and over 70% secure a job within 3 months of finishing the intensive course.
Adam Bannon, Acting CEO, at CodeClan said: “Our courses in Edinburgh and Glasgow exist to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to successfully begin careers in the technology industry. We work with employers to ensure everything that is taught is relevant and fits in with what they are looking for in new starts.
“The fact Euan is the fifth graduate to be placed with Registers of Scotland shows how highly the courses are regarded in the industry and the benefits that each student is bringing to their respective employer.”
The digital technologies sector is one of the nation’s economic success stories, generating over £5 billion in GVA for Scotland every year.
CodeClan opened in Edinburgh in 2015 with the determination of offering a solution to the digital skills gap in Scotland by producing a continuous flow of job-ready developers via its intensive and immersive 16-week software development course.
