The University of Strathclyde has launched an Innovation, Research, and Education Hub in Bahrain, offering a variety of programmes across Engineering, Science, and Business.
The Hub, developed in partnership with S Eleven Educational and located in the capital city Manama, expands the University’s presence in the country where it has been delivering MBA teaching since 1995. Later phases of the project will include research and innovation activities.
The Hub was officially opened by His Highness Prince Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa of the Bahraini royal family, and Professor Stephen McArthur, Associate Principal and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
Strategic partners
Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde, said:
“We’re excited to open this new Hub in Bahrain with our partner S Eleven Educational and growing our activities in the country.
“Having visited the Hub recently, I was impressed by the quality of the facilities, the excellent underpinning digital technology and the enthusiasm and commitment of our strategic partners there.
“Our expanded teaching offering, together with our sector leading approach to partnership working with industry, public sector and academia to advance research and innovation, will bring added value to the Bahraini economy.”
“I’d like to warmly welcome our new students to Strathclyde, who can look forward to a first class learning experience and being valued members of our broader University student community.”
The first cohort of students at the new hub started their studies this week in world-class educational and research facilities that boast cutting-edge amenities including laboratories, libraries, lecture halls, and an innovation hub. Students will primarily be drawn from the surrounding region, principally Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Significant milestone
Mr Khaled Jassim Al Hammadi, Managing Director of S Eleven Holding Group, commented: “The achievement of inaugurating the first fully-fledged University of Strathclyde branch outside the United Kingdom represents a significant milestone towards our mission of smart investment in various developmental fields, including education and innovation. This will directly contribute to advancing and supporting the strategic goals and visions of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the region.”
Dr Abdulla Bader Al Sada, General Manager of S Eleven Educational – and a Strathclyde PhD alumnus himself – said:
“We are extremely pleased to announce this partnership and opening the campus of the prestigious University of Strathclyde in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
“This move will enhance the Kingdom’s position as a regional hub for education and innovation. “
“The University will offer high-quality programs that align with market demands and sustainable economic development. As part of its expansion, the university will introduce specialised postgraduate programs and advanced apprenticeship programs, with a focus on partnering with businesses and conducting research to create an ecosystem of innovation and technology. This will strengthen the Kingdom’s future and its standing on the global stage.”
