Natasha Tew, 26, Kieran Duncan, 22 and Pia Maria Saelen, 22, are among just 51 teams who are through to the semi-final of the Airbus ‘Fly Your Ideas’ innovation competition.
The Strathclyde ‘Team Osprey’ hope their idea of a 3-D printed electric motor for all-electric aircrafts to enable cleaner and more affordable flights, will see them through to the final.
All the shortlisted teams will develop their proposals with the support of Airbus mentors and aerospace experts before up to six finalists are chosen.
Finalist teams will compete for a share of the £40,000 prize and the chance to take their idea forward within the aerospace industry.
Students were invited to innovate in six key areas covering Electrification, Data Services, Cyber Security, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Mixed Reality.
Kieran Duncan said: “We are excited to be through to the semi-final and are working hard on preparation.
“We are giving our best effort to represent Strathclyde as the only team from Scotland and thank everyone for their support and belief in us so far.”
The final of the competition will be held in early summer this year.
