Higher Education, Further Education and Science Minister, Shirley-Anne Somerville announced the new specialist group is to be established to shape the Scottish Government’s STEM strategy.
Professor Iain Hunter, Research Professor in Molecular Microbiology, will co-chair the national STEM Reference Group alongside Scotland’s Chief Scientific Adviser Professor Sheila Rowan.
Scottish Government’s STEM strategy seeks to inspire more people to specialise in science, technology, engineering and maths subjects to enable them to maximise their career opportunities.
The strategy also aims to outline how the numerous STEM activities, programmes and initiatives already being carried out in Scotland could be better aligned to maximise their impact.
Professor Iain Hunter, said: “I am pleased to be actively involved in taking the STEM agenda forward. A strong STEM strategy is very important to Scotland’s economic development, not only to fill the current skills gap, but continue to support the country’s growing industry sectors.”
