Strathclyde staff members account for over a tenth of the 62 fellows announced by the RSE and each of the university’s four faculties is represented.
They join an existing fellowship of more than 1600 people who give their time and expertise for free to support the RSE in delivering its mission of ‘knowledge made useful’.
The newly-elected Fellows from Strathclyde are:
- Dame Sue Bruce (Convenor of Court)
- Professor Gail McConnell (Physics)
- Professor Graeme Reid (Government & Public Policy)
- Professor Stuart Reid (Biomedical Engineering)
- Professor Richard Rose (Government & Public Policy)
- Professor Deepak Uttamchandani (EEE)
- Dr Lena Wilson (Visiting Professor, Business School)
Strathclyde Principal Professor Sir Jim McDonald – who is himself a Fellow of the RSE – said: “This strong representation for Strathclyde among new RSE Fellows is a testament to our spirit of academic excellence, innovation, enterprise and progress.
“The RSE’s motto, ‘Knowledge Made Useful,’ has a clear resonance with Strathclyde’s founding mission of ‘useful learning’.
“Many of our academic, industrial and professional partners are also well-represented among its Fellows and it offers an ideal forum for us to share ideas and experience.”
RSE President Professor Dame Anne Glover said: “The calibre of our Fellows never ceases to amaze me and this year is no different. For such a small country we surpass ourselves with the talent and expertise that exists across our academic, cultural and business landscape.
“All of our Fellows are assets, not just to the RSE but to Scotland and the rest of the world, and I look forward to welcoming and working with them”.
