The ‘Golden Hip’ award is given to the Scottish hospital that meets the highest overall performance measured against a set of standards for hip fracture patients over the year.
This is the second time the award has been presented to the hospital since it first began in 2016 and the orthopaedic team are setting the bar high for other hospitals across the country.
Rashid Abu-Rajab, lead consultant, accepted the award on behalf of the team. He said: “We are delighted to receive this national award again and it is down to the hard work of the whole team.
“The RAH has a proactive multidisciplinary group led by the Orthopaedic Department. This team is dedicated to optimising the care of hip fracture patients, whilst assisting them to preserve their ability to retain independence.
“This is crucial to ensure that people who fracture their hips return to their original place of residence as quickly and as safely as possible, especially at a time in their lives where life is even more precious.”
The Scottish Standards of Care for Hip Fracture Patients are a set of standards to encourage best practice for hip fracture patients in Scotland. These standards are audited at a national level, and the results presented in the Scottish Hip Fracture Audit Annual Report.
