A popular Glasgow curry house has given us a view into the future of takeaways in the city – by conducting a test flight for a drone delivery service.

The test flight was a ‘fun’ collaboration between The Shish Mahal on Park Road in the west end and Eye in the Sky Glasgow, a registered drone operator – which has been documenting Glasgow from above via some beautiful drone-captured photography.

The man behind the aerial inspection, survey and photographic business, John Crawford, is a regular customer at the restaurant – famous for being the ‘creator’ of the world famous Chicken Tikka Masala – and arranged for the test flight with managers Asif and Andle after they showed an interest in drone innovation with thoughts on a future Shish Home Delivery by Drone service.

The short test flight was carried out prior to the latest nationwide lockdown, and was performed outside the restaurant on Park Road with all the necessary safety measures in place.

A short video shows the unmanned aerial vehicle taking to the air on the pavement for a brief period while transporting a Shish Mahal bag as a taxi drives by in the background – making us wonder what the taxi driver thought of the sight!

And while curry drone deliveries might be a wee while away yet we can’t help but get excited at the possibility of having our dinner delivered to us in no time and arriving to our doorstep from above!

Would you be keen on getting your curry delivered by drone? Let us know in the comments!
