The CyberFirst programme will be offered in partnership with GCHQ, one of the world’s leading cyber-security organisations, and will be open to those ready to start university to study a science, technology, engineering, maths or social science subject either in autumn this year, or in autumn 2017 after a gap year.
Only 30 places are being offered for the free-to-attend GCU residential, which will take place between July 4-22.
Those chosen to attend the course can apply for one of the new CyberFirst Student Bursaries to support their university studies – £4,000 per year for every year of their course.
Dr Jackie Riley, Assistant Head of Department within GCU’s School of Engineering and Built Environment, said: “This programme is a fantastic opportunity for any student ready to start university in September on a STEM subject degree.
“Not only will they experience how all aspects of STEM can fit into cyber security, but they will also be eligible to apply for a CyberFirst bursary – a boost to any full-time student, taking the pressure off of needing a part-time job while studying. This is an opportunity not to be missed and the door to a career in cyber security, which they may never have considered, will be opened.”
