A huge congratulations to engineering apprentice Mark Diamond, who has been crowned Graduate Apprentice of the Year at the 2024 Scottish Apprenticeship Awards. The Scottish Apprenticeship Awards, organised by Skills Development Scotland, celebrate the vital benefits apprenticeships bring to individuals and the economy.

Mark, who combines work with studying BEng (Hons) Engineering (Design Manufacture) at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), took home the top prize at a ceremony in Aberdeen.

Mark, who works for power solutions provider Aggreko and helped deliver the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia, said:

“Doing a Graduate Apprenticeship gives you the best of both worlds – you are constantly putting your learning into practice and gaining valuable experience. I have been able to absorb knowledge from more experienced colleagues on my apprenticeship, which has helped me in my personal and professional development, and also boosted my confidence.”

GCU is Scotland’s leading provider of Graduate Apprenticeships and works collaboratively with more than 300 employers across the country.

Their Institute for University to Business Education works with programme leaders and employers to identify potential nominees each year.
