The Christmas campaign – Jingle Wells– is being crowdfunded through sales of Brewgooder’s craft lager.

Launched on November 26, the campaign has already raised its £12,000 target, with the money being directed to the Strathclyde Water Futures Programme led by Professor Bob Kalin.

The programme is mapping every single rural water asset in the country and gathering swathes of data on their functionality. The team is also working with local partners to help to ensure water boreholes and pumps are drilled, installed and maintained correctly.

The aim is to provide the Government of Malawi with a full picture of water assets and availability across the country and put in place a strategy and infrastructure to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goal of clean water for all by 2030.

By working with the Strathclyde team, Brewgooder and its donors will be able to track the progress of repairs in real-time online.

Brewgooder was established in 2016 and donates all of its profits to clean drinking water and sanitation projects in developing countries around the world.

Former Strathclyde student, Zoe Cuthbert, who studied International Law and Sustainable Development, joined Brewgooder in January 2017 as head of programmes and partnerships.

She said: “It’s great to be working with Professor Bob Kalin again. Bob’s a world leader in his field and his academic and work credentials are phenomenal.

“After joining Brewgooder two years ago I was keen that we worked with Bob and his team on these water projects.

“The level of transparency and the fact they are working with the Government of Malawi to put in place long-term solutions was really appealing.”

Professor Kalin said: “We’re delighted to receive the support of Brewgooder. The company recognises that to ensure a long-term solution to delivering clean water for all, we need to take a sustained, integrated and data-driven approach to water assets.”
