Working in partnership with Equate Scotland, the collaboration will support the college’s pioneering work in promoting gender equality whilst reinforcing its commitment to supporting the development of a diverse Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workforce.

Principal and Chief Executive, Paul Little, said: “I am delighted that City of Glasgow College has been awarded this contract which underlines our status as a national STEM Centre of Excellence. Our college has proven its commitment to gender equality with our pioneering women into engineering classes – the first of its kind in Scotland. These have been welcomed by industry and have resulted in a significant increase in enrolments, work placements and public awareness of the gender imbalance in each sector. We are very much looking forward to working with Equate Scotland.”

Talat Yaqoob, Director of EQUATE Scotland, said: “We are incredibly excited about this new partnership. Across Scotland, colleges are essential to supporting and developing a future generation of women engineers. The partnership with City of Glasgow College and Equate Scotland, will create a real difference for young women and a real difference for the engineering industry. Equate Scotland’s vision is of a Scottish STEM sector where women are well represented and we can flourish from their ambitions and talent – with this partnership we will come another step closer to that vision.”

Over the next 12 months City of Glasgow College will deliver over 25 work placements and internships for female trainees. A number of events are planned in partnership with employers, educational institutes and third sector organisations with a view to supporting over 50 individual employers by developing clear vocational pathways for aspiring female engineers.

The partnership will be delivered through the College’s Industry Academy model which channels the college’s curriculum and staff expertise, along with external industry partner collaboration, to meet the needs of learners and employers.
