Sustainable Fashion project drives
industry change
The Sustainable Fashion Employability Skills (SFES) project, spearheaded by Glasgow Caledonian University, has reached a significant milestone with the successful conclusion of its European conference in Madrid.
Under the leadership of Dr Lindsey Drylie Carey, SFES brought together academic institutions from France, Portugal, and Spain, supported by prestigious industry partners such as luxury brand Harris Tweed Hebrides and Tendam, one of Europe’s largest retail groups.
The three-year project, funded by Erasmus+, aimed to advance sustainable fashion practices and cultivate new business models within the industry. The project’s final event, the Slow Fashion Fast Change conference, was held at the Costume Museum in Madrid. The conference featured a comprehensive presentation of the project’s results by Dr Drylie Carey and included personal reflections from students representing each partner university.
Throughout the week, attendees, including students, academic staff, and industry professionals, engaged with various retailers and brands dedicated to the future of sustainable fashion. The event provided a platform for discussing the evolution of sustainable practices within the industry and exploring innovative solutions for a more sustainable future.
Key outputs from the SFES project, including a detailed White Paper, a Contemporary Skills for Sustainable Fashion module, and the Sustainable Fashion Employability Skills survey, are available for download at sfes.eu.
