The Mary Robinson Centre for Climate Justice at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) is dedicated to advancing research, policies, and practices that address the impacts of climate change through a lens of justice and equity. The Centre leads globally in providing evidence-based research to deepen understanding of the societal and injustice impacts of climate change. This research informs recommendations for embedding climate justice into global and local climate initiatives, aiming to create lasting, pragmatic outcomes that enhance societal wellbeing, protect rights, and promote a climate-just world.

Co-designing a just transition to net zero

A 12-month project to involve Glasgow’s citizens in shaping policies for a fair transition to a net-zero carbon economy. Led by Professor Tahseen Jafry, the project begins by analysing existing data to identify barriers to public participation in climate decision-making. Partnering with Glasgow City Council and the Village Storytelling Centre, the project will engage local communities in co-creating narratives of a just transition.

These narratives will be used to develop and refine participatory democracy approaches, enabling citizens to work alongside policymakers on sustainability initiatives. The project aims to enhance public understanding of how climate action impacts daily life, test storytelling as an engagement tool, and create a scalable system for fair public participation.
