Discover the exciting and unexpected research taking place on your doorstep. Meet the people behind the research and find out how research is shaping the world around us! Join us during Explorathon 2018, as we celebrate the fifth European Researchers’ Night*, in venues across Scotland.
In Glasgow, our researchers are geared up for an extravaganza of discovery, debate and entertainment in iconic venues such as the Riverside Museum, Glasgow Science Centre’s planetarium and the Forge Shopping Centre.
There’s something for everyone from toddlers to teenagers and adults too, with a packed programme of events on Friday, September 28 and Saturday, September 29.
There will be a busy school programme, with around 26 schools and pre-schools in Glasgow hosting researchers to deliver hands-on activities, discussions, debates and interactive workshops.
Our popular Explorathon Extravaganza! returns, hosted by the award winning Riverside Museum. You can wander down the Old Street where you’ll find researchers in shops and explore interactive activities amongst the exhibits. You’ll have the chance to try out virtual reality or test if you are a super-voice recogniser!
Highlights this year include an awe-inspiring glimpse of earth and the effects humanity has had on it over time with a special screening of A Beautiful Planet at Cineworld IMAX at Glasgow Science Centre. Find out about asteroid and space debris research, and whether science could have prevented the asteroid collision that wiped out the dinosaurs!
You can also discover the secret world of space junk at Glasgow Science Centre’s planetarium. Sit back and watch a short film about space junk, before discussing ways to address the problem with researchers from the University of Strathclyde.
