Established in 2003, Glasgow-based company Park Circus handles theatrical distribution of thousands of film titles from the majority of the Hollywood studios and major British producers.

In 2014, Park Circus became part of the Arts Alliance group of companies and now in 2017, it remains a driving force in the distribution of classic films, new releases from key studio partners and some of the leading cultural events and documentaries. Nick Varley shines a light on the business…

John Letham and I started Park Circus from some plans sketched out on the kitchen table and an investment of £1,000.

Our idea when we formed the business was a simple one – to get classic films back on the big screen, the format they were made for.

Fourteen years on, Park Circus is the world’s leading distributor of classic film content. We represent over 20,000 feature films from most of the major Hollywood and British studios.

We’re unique in two respects. Firstly, we’re the only significant film distribution company to be Scotland-based as well as being one of very few that operates on a global scale.

Secondly, having established ourselves as one of the sector’s leading operators, in 2014 we took the decision to join the Arts Alliance Group, a leading investor in creative companies.

This union not only made sound commercial sense, it has also provided numerous opportunities for our highly skilled and growing teams in our Glasgow, London and Los Angeles offices.

John, who initially stepped back from day-to-day operations after we joined the Arts Alliance group of companies, recently rejoined the company alongside me as co-CEO.

He’s actively involved in developing a group-wide IT solution to manage the day-to-day sales and licensing process and is exploring how IT solutions and new technology could benefit our company.

My role as co-CEO sees me managing the day to day operations of the company, from sales to marketing (including developing new ways to inspire audiences into classic film), along with technical operations and, of course, overseeing the company’s strategic direction as we grow into new areas.

And, indeed, we recently expanded the business to create a new all rights international sales company. Focusing on home media, television and digital back catalogue content, the Park Circus Film Company offers its services to rights holders and producers, large and small, who need a dedicated, film-literate sales agency to represent their films to international home media, television and digital buyers.

The world of film continues to change and develop, and being part of the Arts Alliance group of Companies has moved Park Circus on to yet another level of growth.

We look forward to seeing what the next ten years bring.
