The institute presented Professor Aidoo its Award for Meritorious Endeavours in Environmental Health in Edinburgh on Friday, November 16.
Tom Bell, the institute’s chief executive, said: “The Council of The Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland, on behalf of the institute’s members, was delighted to invite Emeritus Professor Aidoo to accept its most prestigious award.
“The award recognises his significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of Scotland over many years and Professor Aidoo accepted the invitation to receive the award with delight and humility.”
A professor of food safety and microbiology, Professor Aidoo joined GCU founding institution The Queen’s College in 1988. He led the food bioscience programme at GCU before retiring in 2016.
He said: “I am honoured and pleased to receive the award and to join the prestigious company of previous recipients including Sir Harry Burns and Professor Hugh Pennington.”
Professor Andrea Nelson, Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences, said: “The university would like to congratulate Professor Aidoo on this much deserved award.
“The wealth of expertise he continues to share with GCU as Emeritus Professor is hugely valuable to our students and staff and he is a worthy winner of this accolade.”
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Lorrainne MacGillivray, the institute’s president, offered her congratulations to Professor Aidoo and said that he was a most deserving recipient of the award, which is presented annually.
