Meanwhile, a quarter of the young designers chosen for the TexSelect mentorship programme are GSA graduates and another GSA graduate has been shortlisted for Film London’s Jarman Award.
Over 200 applicants were interviewed for the chance to take part in the prestigious TexSelect initiative with only 24 selected. Erin McQuarrie (Print), Eve Campbell (Print), Cath Sinclair (Knit), Alice Percy-Raine (Embroidery), MJ Kasiarz, (Embroidery) and Claudia Veneroni (Embroidery) will be showcasing their work to buyers, press and sponsors at the TexSelect London Preview next month before heading to Première Vision Paris – Europe’s leading fabric fair – at the end of September.
The Jarman Award, run by Film London, showcases artists working with moving image and this year’s shortlist includes GSA graduate Hardeep Pandhal. The winner, who will receive £10,000, will be announced in November 2018.
Skinder Hundal, chief executive of Nottingham’s New Art Exchange, said on behalf of the 2018 Jarman Award jury: “This year’s selection bring a fresh and compelling series of narratives and styles, sharing a real and unreal brilliance in creativity, and demonstrating extraordinary gymnastics of the mind. The award’s importance lies in its transformational effect for those who participate, whether they win or not, recognising their sustained practices, and introducing their work to new audiences around the UK.”
