A new “city-wide curriculum” running through City of Glasgow College, Glasgow Clyde College and Glasgow Kelvin College aims to offer a broader choice of learning options that tie into real job opportunities right across the region and that will “strengthen relationships” with councils, schools and other agencies.
The new strategy is committed to widening access and making it easier for people from disadvantaged communities to benefit from a life changing college education.
Speaking at the launch, Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science, Shirley-Anne Somerville said, “Improving education and life chances is the defining mission of this government and Glasgow’s regional approach will help build careers and contribute to Scotland’s modern, successful, dynamic economy.”
GCRB was set up as part of the Scottish Government’s reform of the college sector which merged colleges into regional public bodies.
Eight Regional Foundation Apprentices hosted the strategies launch at Glasgow Kelvin College’s East End Campus on 30 October. The Regional Apprentices are evidence that its new Glasgow-focused approach is working. Their apprenticeship programme, developed by the three colleges and Skills Development Scotland, means that they now have access to learning and employment opportunities right across the city region.
