Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform, Aileen McLeod, announced the award of £9.47 million for 116 community-led projects in the 22nd round of grants.
The Fund supports projects which lead to realistic and measurable carbon reduction and/or increase communities’ resilience to the impacts of climate change, are community led and leave a long standing legacy of low carbon behaviour. Project themes include energy efficiency advice to households, improvements to community-owned properties, greener travel, waste reduction and recycling, and local seasonal food-growing.
Amongst the recipients in the West of Scotland are Embedding North Glasgow’s Green Legacy project run by North Glasgow Housing Association to cut local carbon emissions by improving home energy efficiency, reducing waste and growing more local food; a project called Uni-Cycle by Glasgow Bike Station that aims to get staff and students across Glasgow’s further education community cycling; and Eco Drama’s Magic Van Tour 2016-17 project will collaborate with primary schools in Renfrewshire to increase learning and awareness in the area of sustainable development education through an arts-based approach.
