Amongst the winners from across the Scottish Higher Education landscape, were the University of Glasgow who won 3 of the prestigeous awards. The University was named the Higher Educational Institution of the Year and the groundbreaking postgraduate Masters programme in Stratified Medicine received the award for Outstanding Employer Engagement. The Outstanding Contribution from a Student award went to University veterinary medicine student Ruby Shorrock for the Trusty Paws project, which helps maintain the health of the pets of homeless people.
Professor Maggie Kinloch, Vice Principal at Royal Conservatoire of Scotland was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for more than 30 years dedication and her tireless support for inclusivity in the arts, as well as her enormous contribution to the arts in Scotland. The institution also collected the Widening Access Award for their Transitions 20/40 programme, celebrating its vital role in supporting young people from the most disadvantaged backgrounds to explore their potential in the performing and production arts.
Glasgow Caledonian University’s submission for research in 3D printed personalised foot orthotics picked up the Research Project of the Year award. The research, through the £3m EU-funded A-Footprint project, has beneficially impacted on patients’ health and wellbeing as new 3D-printed orthoses have been designed and produced, as well as helping to enhance the reputation of the institution through the achievement of ‘Flagship’ project status by the European Commission.
And there was more success for institutions in the West of Scotland as the City of Glasgow College lifted the Student Support Team of the Year award for their ‘Keeping Warm Campaign’.
Keynote speaker Professor Craig Mahoney, principal and vice-chancellor of University of the West of Scotland, said: “I am a strong advocate of transformative learning and am excited by the extraordinary developments that are happening across Scotland’s universities and higher education institutions.
“These awards highlight this work and it was a pleasure to see the standard of entrants. I would like to congratulate all institutions for their fantastic work.”
