Glasgow’s Green Year 2015 highlights the city’s aspirations to be greener and more eco-friendly through a series of themed months. January’s theme of improving energy efficiency came to the fore at the ‘Strictly Green’ launch event in the People’s Palace with energy generated by dancing on innovative flooring tiles being used to charge mobile phones and tablets.
Among those taking part in the Strictly Green event were students from The Dance School of Scotland based at Glasgow’s Knightswood Secondary School, Oakgrove Primary School, the current holders of Scotland’s Sustainable Schools Award, and members of Knightswood Active Seniors.
The flooring will be used by Glasgow City Council officials during Green Year to help educate Glaswegians about our city’s green aspirations and will also be used after 2015 as a tool to raise awareness about people’s carbon footprint and how to reduce their impact on our environment.
The new app and website will help Glaswegians to engage and showcase the many diverse events happening throughout the city during 2015 including a Green Maze in George Square during the Easter holidays and a special Green Year film event as part of February’s Youth Film Festival in Glasgow.
