The results demonstrated that 89% of the University’s research activity in Allied Health Professions is in the highest categories of world-leading (4*) and internationally excellent (3*). Overall, the University is ranked in the top 20 in the UK for health research at world-leading and internationally excellent standards.
All of the University’s impact submission for Allied Health Professions was judged to be in the highest categories, ranking GCU as one of the leading universities in the UK for the societal impact of its applied research in health.
Research in areas including increasing HIV testing among vulnerable populations; healthcare associated infections; effective treatments for women with prolapse; and personalised foot orthoses highlight GCU’s significant impacts on health policy and services, commercial organisations and patients.
Almost two-thirds of GCU’s Social Work and Social Policy submission was rated world-leading and internationally excellent, with 80% of impact in this area rated at world-class levels. This research includes a significant impact on intimate partner violence practice in Scotland, including the development of new interventions for offenders, and challenging perceptions of poverty. The University’s Social Work and Social Policy impact case studies at world-leading levels ranked GCU as in the top 10 in the UK.
GCU research in the Built Environment also performed strongly overall in the UK, with impact in this area rated as top 20 in the UK combining world-leading and internationally excellent research submissions.

To best meet these societal challenges, GCU’s wide-ranging research spans public health and long-term conditions, social innovation, equalities and justice, and urban environments and efficient systems.
