Glasgow Caledonian University’s BSc (Hons) Game Development course has earned official recognition as an Unreal Authorized Academic Partner by Epic Games – the creators of the globally renowned Unreal Engine.
This designation reflects the University’s commitment to delivering high-quality, industry-relevant education in game development and real-time 3D technologies. Unreal Engine is a powerful real-time 3D creation tool used to build high-end video games, visual effects for film and television, architectural visualisations, and immersive experiences such as virtual and augmented reality.
The Unreal Authorized Academic Partner status is awarded to institutions that demonstrate excellence in teaching Unreal Engine and preparing students for careers in interactive media and immersive technologies.
Through this partnership, Glasgow Caledonian joins a select network of academic institutions worldwide that are acknowledged for their outstanding use of Unreal Engine in the classroom. This status provides staff and students with access to a range of exclusive benefits, including advanced training resources, enhanced learning materials and opportunities to participate in collaborative initiatives with Epic Games.
Alan Jack, Lecturer for BSc (Hons) Game Development, said: “This recognition by Epic Games is a testament to the calibre of our academic staff, the dedication of our students, and the overall strength of our programme. It further validates our approach to embedding real-time 3D technology into the curriculum and strengthens our position as a leading provider of game development education in the UK.”
Dr Anand Philip, Head of Department, said: “The University looks forward to leveraging this partnership to further enrich the student learning experience, expand industry engagement and support graduate employability in the rapidly growing interactive media sector.”
