Statkraft: Europe’s largest
generator of renewable energy
In September 2023, Statkraft, Europe’s largest renewable energy producer, officially opened its new Scottish headquarters in the heart of the Glasgow City Innovation District. This modern, sustainable office marks a significant milestone for the company, reflecting its commitment to advancing renewable energy in the UK.
Statkraft, fully owned by the Norwegian government, boasts over 125 years of experience in energy market operations. In the UK, the company focuses on developing, owning, and operating wind, solar, hydro, hydrogen, and greener-grid projects, reinvesting all profits into further renewable development.
To date, Statkraft has invested over £1.3 billion in the UK’s renewable energy infrastructure. They are a leading provider of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and have established six operational onshore wind farms, five of which are in Scotland. Additionally, they have five more wind projects approved, five in the planning stages, and a substantial pre-planning pipeline.
The new headquarters highlights Statkraft’s dedication to supporting Scotland’s net zero targets. In a strategic partnership with the University of Strathclyde, Statkraft aims to further develop future talent and grow Scotland’s thriving renewables sector.

Iain Robertson, Head of Statkraft Scotland“Scotland is already seen as a leading centre for renewable development. But physical infrastructure needs people with the skills to build it. That’s why we are very pleased to be joining forces with the University of Strathclyde, to foster research and collaboration, to help develop the next generation of talent, and ensure Scotland continues to lead the way in renewables.”
