The University of Glasgow needs you to help launch their new ARC building.

ARCadia is a public festival that will celebrate the public opening of the Advanced Research Centre (ARC), a flagship new building and resource for the University of Glasgow and the people of Glasgow. ARCadia will run from 16 September to 30 September 2022 coinciding with Doors Open Day Weekend and the September Weekend.

The ARC is located in Glasgow’s West end, on the site of the old Western Infirmary. The ground floor of the building is permanently open to the public, with adaptable event spaces, collaborative seating areas, a café and free WiFi.

The University has launched an open call for events and activities that will showcase, celebrate and engage the public with the fantastic diversity of research, collaboration and innovation happening across the Glasgow City Region. They want to bring the ARC to life and create a welcoming, inspiring space for everyone, inside and outside of the University. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of this major celebratory event and take advantage of the facilities the ARC has to offer.

They are particularly interested in ideas that involve:

  • Collaboration between the university and non-academic groups
  • A mix of disciplines, from the arts to social, physical and life sciences
  • Engaging underrepresented groups, or groups who traditionally experience barriers to accessing the university or research
  • Engaging communities local to the ARC (e.g. postcodes G11, G3, G12)
  • Creative approaches to engagement

From performance to workshops, comedy, literature, art, music, science and yoga, events from all subjects are welcome and encouraged, including ideas from inside and outside the University of Glasgow.

If your event requires funding, you are also invited to apply for the Festival Fund, which is embedded within the proposals form. Interested groups outwith the university can apply to the fund in partnership with staff or students.

Find out more and submit an idea on the website. The deadline for proposals is 31 May 2022. If you are unable to meet this deadline but would still like to get involved with the festival, please get in touch with ARC Festival Manager Zara Gladman: or Research Engagement Manager Ken Skeldon to discuss.
